Viernes 14 de octubre (Re-cap of the week!)

Hola a todos,

Spanish:

  • We are learning all about fall (otoño) and the seasons in Spanish. We are also learning vocabulary about Halloween.
  • Here are some videos you can watch with your child:
https://youtu.be/6rWMqhCYnJQ (Song about Fall in Spanish, your child should help you out with the lyrics)
https://youtu.be/UWAfMqAkXzs  (Documentary Style video in Spanish about Fall)

ELAL:

  • We had an amazing week! We practiced our letters sounds playing "Snakes and Ladders" and our sight words with "Roll a Sight Word".
  • We read stories about growth mindset! We read Sweep by Louise Greig, When We Were Alone by David A. Robertson, and The Girl Who Never Made Mistakes by Mark Pett and Gary Rubinstein.
  • Practice at home with your child:

Math:

  • We had so much fun creating patterns this week! We are working working on repeating patterns (ABAB, ABCABC, AABBAABB, etc.)
  • Practice at home with your child:
    • Create a pattern with your body (jumping jack, clap, jumping jack, clap, etc.).
    • Have your child figure out what type of pattern their parents are making. (Is it ABAB?, etc.)
Science:

  • We had so much fun learning about colours we see in the fall. We spent the week using watercolours and seeing what colours mix well together.
  • Practice at home:
    • Do an art project with your child! Ask them about primary and secondary colours. What can we use to make a secondary colour?
Social Studies:
  • We had a great weekend discussing the meaning of Respect. Talk with your child about what respect means and different ways to show respect. (Special respect is shown to parents, teachers, and elders, etc.)

Reminders:
  • Swimming next week:
    • We have swimming starting Monday next week. Please pack undergarments, towels, etc. for your child, as well as extra food in their snacks. Since we're doing more physical activity your child might need more food!
    • For kiddos with longer hair: Please put your hair in a braid, bun, etc. as we do not have that much time to get ready to go back to school.
  • Raz Kids is coming soon. We are setting up students accounts and passwords.
  • School photos retakes were originally scheduled to happen on October 17 & 18 have been rescheduled to November 2 & 3.  If you would like your child to have photo retakes, please email your child's teacher to let them know. Class Photos will also happen on the same days.
  • Starting on Monday, October 17, 2022 we will be collecting food/non-perishable items for the Veteran’s Food Drive. There will be boxes set up at the front and back door for food drop off. At Dalhousie School, we want to support Calgarians who are less fortunate than us, and one way we are doing this is through the Veteran’s Food Drive. This drive will run until after Remembrance Day. Items that the food bank is urgent need of are the following:

  • Kleenex – tissue boxes
  • Napkins
  • Paper towel
  • 1 litre juice cartons
  • Juice boxes for lunches
  • Cereal
  • Coffee and coffee pods
  • Pancake mix
  • Laundry soap
  • Granola bars
  • Ziploc bags (medium and large)
  • Fabric softener
  • Rice packages
  • Cookies
  • Canned chili / stew
  • Mayonnaise
  • $25.00 grocery gift cards
    • Thank you for your support of this worthy cause.

  • Halloween
    • With Halloween coming up, students are invited to wear costumes to school on Monday, October 31.  The costumes must be worn the whole day and must be appropriate for school environment meaning no violent or inappropriate content or messaging. Accessories such as swords, guns, knives, weapons etc. should not be brought to school.  As costumes should not impede learning, we ask that no mask even if it’s a half face mask be worn to school.  Those wanting to wear COVID masks are welcome to. Due to dietary restrictions and preferences, no food should be brought to school for sharing purposes.  While well intended, other non-food treats should also be not brought to school (goodie/loot bags).
