Hola a todos,

It has been a great week. We have been learning the stories of Indigenous people all week. We have talked about residential schools, orange shirt day and watched videos of elders telling stories about the Seven Sacred Laws. 

Spanish: We are reviewing our vocales A, E, I, O, U. (Vowels in Spanish A, E, I, O, U) 
We learned how to say the Seven Sacred Laws in Spanish. 
We are also practicing how to say our name, how are you, and more in Spanish.

Today we had the Terry Fox Run! It was really fun.

ELAL: Today we read a story about Orange Shirt Day and the person who started it, Phyllis Webstad. We talked about the indigenous tradition of sharing circle. 

Math: We represented the number of the day (11) in different ways. We counted from 1-100 in Spanish as a class with a game. 

Our favourite part of the day was:

  • Terry Fox run with whole school. 
  • Doing the math game.
  • Making new friends with grade 5's and 4's. 
  • Got to see some family.
  • Reading the Terry Fox book that Kailyn brought. 
  • Learning new things with Srta. 
  • We had the park today! We love playing with our friends in the tire swing. 

NEWS FROM DALHOUSIE SCHOOL: 

School photos will take place on September 27 for the Tuesday/Thursday Kindergarten group, Grades 1, 3 and 5. On September 28, the Monday/Wednesday Kindergarten group as well as Grades 2 and 4 will have their pictures taken. Please note that it will be the individual as well as the class photos.  Retakes will take place on October 17 & 18, 2022.

On Thursday, September 29, Dalhousie will recognize the National Day for Truth & Reconciliation by wearing orange shirts.    Students will also be engaging in learning around Indigenous Ways of Knowing and Being.    There is no school on Friday, September 30.

Grade 1, 2, and 3 students have the opportunity to go swimming at Churchill Pool on October 17, 18, 19, 20, 24, 25. Students will have the opportunity to participate in the “Swim to Survive” program. These forms have been sent home with your child. Please fill out the Acknowledgment of Risk form & the Swimming Ability form , returning them to your child’s classroom teacher by no later than September 29, 2022. Both of these forms are required in order for your child to participate in swimming program. Thank you to our Dalhousie Parent Society who generously funded a large portion of the bussing, thereby reducing the individual cost to families.  We will require 6 additional volunteers and 1 male volunteer for each time slot for this field trip to be a success. Please see the Sign Up Genius to sign up for a volunteer slot. Only approved CBE volunteers will be permitted to attend this trip.   As we currently have a shortage of cleared volunteers in the lower grades, parents who are cleared from Kindergarten, Grades 4 & 5 are welcome to sign up.

Hola a todos,

In Spanish today we practice speaking and writing la vocal (the vowel) O. We are also practicing commands in Spanish like "Puedo ir al baño? Puedo ir a tomar agua?". 

In Math we represented the number 10 in different ways. 

In English we learned the sound for the letter V and practice printing. We read the book "Can I Play Too?" and discussed how to be kind to others. 

In Social Studies we started our "I belong to..." project about the groups we are part of in our community.  Today we added our country and a sport/activity we're a part of after school.

In Math we represented the number 9 in different ways. 

In English we read the book "The Bad Seed" and discussed poor choices vs responsible choices. 

In Social Studies we continued our "I belong to..." project about the groups we are part of in our community.  

In Science we continued with colours.

In Spanish today we practice speaking and writing la vocal (the vowel) O. We are also practicing commands in Spanish like "Puedo ir al baño? Puedo ir a tomar agua?". In Math we represented the number 8 in different ways. We went to the library and got 2 books, 1 Spanish and 2 English. In English we read the book "The Magical Yet" and drew our own yet. Ask your child what a "yet" is! In Social Studies we started our "I belong to..." project about the groups we are part of in our community.

 Hola a todos,

We had a great Monday. 

In Spanish we practiced speaking and writing la vocal O. In Math we represented the number 7 in different ways. In English we learned the sound for the letter "D" and practice printing. In Social Studies we are discussing our community.

Here are our favourite parts of today:

  • Practicing Matematicas
  • Today we got to play in the park with our friends! Playing on the tire swing with friends. 
  • Going to the gym for P.E * 
  • Eating snack and using the time to chat with our friends.
  • Going to music with Srta. Primak 
  • Playing in the rain!

  • Playing a tag game our friends during recess.

Viernes 16 de septiembre

Hola a todos,

We had a great week! 

In English Languages Arts we learned the letters p, b, t. We read My Personal Space by Pippa Goodhart and Giraffes Can't Dance by Giles Andreae and Guy Parker-Rees. 

In Math we have been practicing counting 0-20 in Spanish. We represented the numbers 4, 5, and 6 in different ways in our notebooks. 

In Spanish we have been learning "las vocales" (vowels) A, E, and I. We have been practicing introducing ourselves, talking about how we're feeling and talking about our favourite colour. 

In Social Studies we have been talking about ourselves and what makes us unique. In Science we have been learning about colours. 

In Art, we created our own Terry Fox shoe to support his cause.

School news

On Monday, September 19, Dalhousie School will observe a moment of silence in to mark the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. All CBE School and workplaces will remain open as scheduled.

Please see the separate email that was sent regarding Parent Teacher Interviews, which will be held on Thursday, September 22 and Friday, September 23.   The conference booking application is currently experience technical issues and you may not be able to book at the initially indicated time.  We thank you for your patience.

Due to Parent Teacher Interviews, there is no school for all students on Friday, September 23.  It is a full day of school for all students, including Tuesday/Thursday Kindergarten students on Thursday, September 22.

Dalhousie students and families will be participating in the annual Terry Fox run. The run will be held at the school on September 26 at 1:45 PM. Donations can be made online to the Terry Fox foundation under Dalhousie School. Students are also encouraged to bring a Toonie for Terry on the day of the run. 

School photos will take place on September 27 for the Tuesday/Thursday Kindergarten group, Grades 1, 3 and 5. On September 28, the Monday/Wednesday Kindergarten group as well as Grades 2 and 4 will have their pictures taken. Please note that it will be the individual as well as the class photos. A retake date will be confirmed.

Our Orange Shirt Day is September 29th.

Martes 13 de septiembre

 Hola a todos,

Today during Calendario the smartboard was acting all crazy! We've been having fun predicting what the weather of the day is going to be and saying how we feel in Spanish. 

In Spanish we learned the sound for 'E' and learnt words in Spanish that start with that letter.

In Math we represented different ways to show our number of the day, 3. 

We had library for the first time today! We are coming home with 2 books, 1 English and 1 Spanish. Please read these book with your child and return them on Monday. Find below some information for overdue books. 



In English Language Arts & Literature we learned about the letter B. We practiced printing upper and lower case B's then we drew picture of the words we know that start with B. We are almost done our Social Studies presentations!

Lunes 12 de septiembre

Hola a todos, 

We had music today! This morning during Calendario we got to listen to a new morning song, every week there will be a new song and throughout the week we can pick what we want to sing along to! We've been practicing saying our feelings in Spanish during our morning meeting.

In Spanish we learned about "las vocales" (vowels). Today we practice pronouncing the letter 'E' and learnt words that start with that letter in Spanish. 

In Math we played a counting game together as a class. 

In Gym we have been practicing commands in Spanish, as well as playing games such as "Pato Pato Ganzo". 

In English Language Arts & Literature we learned about the letter P. We practiced printing upper and lower case P's then we drew picture of the words we know that start with P. 

 We continued doing our "About Me" presentations in Social Studies.

Viernes 9 de septiembre

 Hola chiquitos,

Happy Friday! 

We have been enjoying working on our "morning tubs" during soft entry. Here's a sneak peek of what we've been doing:


In Spanish we have been practicing our feelings. Feliz (happy), triste (sad), enojado (mad), etc. 

We had our first assembly of the year, and our teacher performed a song! 

We started our "All About Me" presentations and will continue next week! 

We had music with Sra. Fuentes class to end our day. 

We had a great day!

- Terry Fox Donation sheets went home this week. Please donate online, there is a QR code on the donation sheet. We did an excellent job raising fund for this worthy cause last year and we want to continue to support Terry Fox organization.

Jueves 8 de septiembre

¡Hola a todos!

We have been learning how to ask questions in Spanish. We have been learning how to express our feelings and questions we can ask. 

In Math we have been practicing counting forward in Spanish. We have been using blocks to show our number understanding! 

In English we have been reading lots, today we read "Billy Bully" and talked about what happened in the story. 

In Science, we investigated colours. We practiced our knowledge of colours in Spanish, red (rojo) blue (azul) green (verde) yellow (amarillo) purple (morado), etc.

Miercoles 7 de septiembre

 ¡Hola a todos!

In Spanish today we continued to talk about our feelings. We practiced how to introduce ourselves in Spanish and other greetings. After lunch, we read "All Are Welcome" and discussed what makes each of us unique. 

Our favourite part of the day was:

  • Math class! 
  • Recess, we got to play on the playground with our friends and use the monkey bars!
  • Eating snack and eating lunch! We love food! 
  • Gym class! It was our first gym class in the gym!
  • Playing in the field and playing tag. 
  • Playing tag with friends from other classes and from our neighbourhood! 
  • Reading books. 
Parents, please remember to bring the "All About Me" bag by Friday, September 9th.

Martes 6 de septiembre

 ¡Hola a todos!

This morning we had our first morning calendar meeting! We talked about presenter of the day and student of the week. 

In Math we had number work with our number of the day, número 1. In Spanish we learned about our feelings and the colours that go with them. After lunch, we read "My Mouth is a Volcano" and talked about "blurting out" during instruction time. We went over our Student Code of Conduct and expectations. 

Parents, the children were sent home with a paper bag with their name on it. This paper bag is for Social Studies, the kids will be presenting their bag to the class and discussing what's in the bag. To complete this they will need four objects that fit in their bag, for example: a hair clip because I have long hair! Please have your child bring this bag back no later than Friday, September 9th.

First Friday of Grade 1! / ¡Primer viernes de grado 1!

Today was a fun day! We read the book "Our class is a family" and talked about what makes up a family. We learned what our classmates like and had them sign their name. 

These were our favourite activities of today:

  • Playing with friends and our teacher. 
  • "My family" Art activity. 
  • "My first day of grade one" Art activity. (It's our 2nd day, but that's okay!) 
  • Going to the playground with our friends. 
  • Playing Toilet Tag and Pato Pato Ganzo! with other grade one classes. 
  • Getting to colour!

First day! / ¡Primer día!

 Today was our first day of Grade 1! Yay!

We had a great day getting to know our teacher and our new classmates. We practiced walking in the school quietly, going outside and practiced a fire drill! We read the book "First Day Jitters" and were surprised about who had the jitters. 

There is a paper regarding fundraising that went home today.
