Martes 13 de diciembre

Hola a todos,

On Friday, the grade ones will be hosting a spirit day: crazy hat day! Make sure you bring your craziest hat on Friday, December 16th!

ELAL

  • We are reviewing our lively letter sounds and our first 36 sight words.
  • Raz-kids will be updated this week with the reading level your child is currently at. It will lock your child into that level to reinforce reading strategies. Please email me if you need information on how to log in.
  • Our favourite activities to review:
    • Using our flash cards and making them.
    • Using our flashcards for memory with friends.
    • Playing roll a sight word.
  • Feel free to watch these video to learn about strategies you can use at home to support your child:

SLA

  • We are practicing our sonidos iniciales and writing our own sentences independently.

  • Our favourite activities:
    • Writing our own sentences.
    • Mochila flash cards with friends.

Math

  • We are learning all about shapes in Spanish and what their attributes are. How many sides? How many corners? Ask your child these questions when discussing shapes you see either at home or out shopping, at grandma's house, etc.
  • Our favourite activities:
    • Creating our own images using blocks and writing what shapes we used.
    • Cutting out examples of shapes in real life from flyers!

Reminders:

On December 16, Dalhousie students to participate in Crazy Hat Day.   Wear your craziest headgear to show off to your friends!

A reminder that the last day of classes before winter break is Thursday, December 22, 2022.  Classes will resume on Monday, January 9, 2023.

Each year, Dalhousie has a lottery for Kindergarten and Grade 1 as we are only allocated so many spots. To help us with planning, please let us know if you intend on registering a younger sibling at Dalhousie for the 2023-2024 school year by completing this form. Siblings who live in the walk zone have Priority 1 registration status and those who live outside of the walk and within our catchment areas have Priority 2 registration status. If you have more than one child for Kindergarten and/or Grade 1 for whom you would like to apply, please go back to the link and fill out one form for each potential registrant. Please note that providing this information does not mean that your child is registered. You must still complete a registration form. To be included in the lottery, which will be held February 15, 2023, your completed expression of interest with all relevant paperwork must be received by February 14, 2023 at noon. Expressions of interest can be submitted starting January 16, 2023. Any references to registration assumes offer of a registration spot in the lottery. This form must only be filled out for new registrations to Dalhousie.  If you child currently attends Dalhousie, their registration automatically rolls over and you do not need to do anything.

This year Dalhousie School has decided to give back to the community by participating in the Salvation Army Toy Drive. This toy drive is designed to bring cheer to low-income families with children aged 0-12. A box has been set up in the main office to collect donations. If you would like to contribute please bring your unwrapped toys into the office before noon on December 20, 2022.

We are in the last month before Winter Break.  A reminder that if your child will be absent for 5 days or more due to a holiday, an extended absence form must be filled out.  Please email dalhousie@cbe.ab.ca to request the form and have it submitted before your child’s absence.

Southland Transportation has updated the MyBusStop app to include push notifications.  When there is a posted delay on a bus route, families can now receive an alert directly to their mobile phone. To receive notifications families must have the app installed on their phone and have registered on the website. They can subscribe to their route using the code provided in MyCBE. You can then allow the app to provide you notifications on their route delays
