Viernes 18 de noviembre

Hola a todos,

We have been having a blast dancing with Sound Kreation during P.E this week. Our favourite part of Sound Kreation is:

  • Our instructor is really funny and nice!
  • We like our dance about "cookies". Ask me about this cookie dance!
  • Following the beat of the music with our bodies.
  • Learning the history about Hip-Hop dancing. Ask me what city it comes from!
  • Everything!

Today we had our first reading buddies group, we read some books with the grade 3's and grade 4's. Our favourite parts were:

  • Making new friends to help us read new words and reading with the grade 3's and 4's.
  • How nice our buddies were with us. We had great buddies!
  • How funny the Gr. 4 teachers are!
  • Reading to our buddies and them reading to us as well.
  • Seeing our siblings in older grades and seeing our neighbours from the community.

English

  • Our letters sounds of the week were: W, H, Wh, and I.
  • We have been reviewing all of the 36 sight words we have learned so far. Here are our favourite activities of the week:
  1.  Swat a sight word: we loved using a fly swatter to hit bugs that had our sight words on it.
  2. Watching learning videos about our sight words. We love Jack Hartmann!
  3. Using the whiteboards to practice writing the sight words the teacher says out loud.
  4. Reading buddies on Friday.

Spanish

  • This week we have been practicing speaking in Spanish with our "mochilas" (backpack). We make our flash cards and practice them every morning.
  • Our favourite activities:
  1.  Drawing pictures of the words in Spanish and colouring with Señorita.
  2. We like learning and practicing with our friends during mochila time.

Math

  • We have been practicing counting in Spanish 1 - 100 front and backwards.
  • We have been practicing skip counting in Spanish by 2's and 10's. Next week we will focus on counting by 5's.
  • Our favourite activities:
  1. Counting out loud and dancing.
  2. Completing a skip counting maze by 2's, where we had to find the end of the maze by choosing the right number that comes next.

Social Studies

  • This week we finished doing all of our "All About Me" presentations.
  • We are starting to create a poster that is "All About My School" where we draw our school. the logo, our favourite subject, what they have and what we love about it.
  • Our favourite parts were:

  1. Doing the presentations and learning more about our classmates.
  2. We liked to use warm and cool colours that we learned in Science.

Reminders:

- Ask your child about Sound Kreations and the new dance moves that they are learning!

- Please ensure that you have read the email about the AHS declared outbreak at Dalhousie.  If you have any questions, please email dalhousie@cbe.ab.ca.

- Thank you to those families who have paid their fees for swimming, Sound Kreations or field trips.  Fees can be paid through your MyCBE account.  Prompt payment is appreciated as any unpaid fees impacts the programming that the school can offer.

Our virtual book fair starts today and can be accessed through this link.  Students will have an in-person opportunity to purchase books as well either during the day on November 22, 23, 24 or in the evening from 5-8 on November 24.

- A reminder that conferences are being held next week on November 24 & 25.  Please see the separate email that was sent for information on how to book.

- As a reminder around traffic safety, there is no parking or entering the school parking lot at any time. Please also be respectful and mindful of the parking, no stopping and Hug & Go zones around the school.   The Hug & Go Zone is meant for a vehicle to be there for under a minute.  Your child should be able to exit the vehicle independently and have their backpack with them in order to use this area.  The Hug & Go Zone is not meant as a waiting zone for families to pick up their child after school by remaining in their vehicle.    We continue to receive complaints from our neighbors regarding families who park in front of their garage is blocking access as well as reports of near misses. Safety over convenience it is not just a phraseIt needs to be a mindset and continued action. The Calgary Parking Authority as well as the Calgary Police Service will be coming out for education and enforcement. Dalhousie School has no ability or authority to have any in fractions and accompanying fines waived.  Thank you for collectively being conscious about traffic safety for our students, your children and our families, you.
